Rental FAQ
FAQs
- What do I need to rent a motorcycle from USA Rider?
- You must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license with a motorcycle endorsement. In other words, you must have taken and passed a motorcycle test in your state or country and your driver’s license must be current and reflect that you are qualified to operate a motorcycle.
- You must also have a major credit card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover Card) with at least $1,000.00 in available credit.
- Do I need a motorcycle license to rent any of your motorcycles?
- Yes, with one exception. The Can Am Spyder is a three-wheeled vehicle and a separate motorcycle license is not required in the state of South Carolina to operate it. However, you must have a valid driver’s license.
- Do I have to wear a helmet?
- Our insurance company requires that we provide a helmet for you and your passenger if you don’t have one with you. However, South Carolina does not require that you wear a helmet. We encourage all of our customers to wear helmets and other protective gear when operating a motorcycle.
- Do you take a deposit?
- We take a $1,000 preauthorization on your credit card that is released after the bike is returned on time and undamaged. We do not accept cash deposits.
- How old do you have to be to rent?
- 21. However, we reserve the right to refuse to rent to anyone at any age if in our opinion they do not possess the requisite skills, experience and maturity to operate our motorcycles.
- I have my Learner’s Permit, can I rent if I have someone with me with a License?
- No. Our insurance company requires that you have a valid operator’s permit with a motorcycle endorsement to rent one of our motorcycles. Again, the exception is the Can Am Spyder which requires only that you have a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
- Do I have to buy motorcycle insurance?
- Yes, however the insurance premium is already built into our rental rates. It provides you with the minimum liability insurance for the state of South Carolina, and protects USA Rider Company with coverage for potential liability caused by your operation of our motorcycle. You may choose to purchase additional liability insurance at a minimal cost.
- What should I do if I do have an accident, or the bike is damaged or stolen?
- Your health and safety is our first concern. Assuming you are able, immediately contact the police and get a police report describing the incident. Our insurance company requires that a police report accompany all claims of damage, theft, or other loss. The next call should be to USA Rider Company so that we can make arrangements to recover the motorcycle, make arrangements for other customers who were expecting to rent the motorcycle and so on.
- What is my financial responsibility to USA Rider Company should the motorcycle be damaged, totaled, or stolen while in my possession.
- You are responsible for the entire repair or replacement cost of the motorcycle plus a daily amount of $100.00 to compensate USA Rider for our loss of use of the motorcycle until it is repaired or replaced. You may limit your financial liability to a total of $1,000.00 by purchasing a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) at a cost of $15.00 per day. If the CDW is purchased, our insurance company will reimburse USA Rider and will not pursue you for collection of the cost to repair or replace.
- Is there a mileage restriction?
- You are entitled to unlimited mileage for the period the motorcycle is rented to you.
- Can I leave the state?
- Yes. You can take the bike anywhere in the United States.
- How long is the rental period?
- 1 rental day is 24 hours. For instance, if you pick up the bike at 9:00 AM Wednesday, it is due back at 9:00 AM on Thursday. After a one-hour grace period, we will begin charging $20.00 for each hour, or part of an hour, until the bike is returned. Always call to advise that the expected return time is not going to be met. We may have the same bike scheduled for another customer who is expecting the bike will be available.
- I have my own motorcycle insurance. Why can’t I deduct the cost of the daily insurance ($18.00) from the rental rate?
- If your insurance company will provide you with a separate binder providing USA Rider Company with 1 million dollars in liability coverage, we will reduce the rental rates accordingly. However, it has been our experience that insurance companies are reluctant to provide such a binder.
- Is there anything else I must do?
- Yes. Have fun!!
